Preterm babies develop poorly after start and extremely more often than not advance ex utero progress limit (EUGR). besides the fact that, the dangers and advantages of catch-up development in preterm babies needs to be weighed, and proof addressing this warrants exam. Perinatal development and food explores the explanations for EUGR and the long term results on developmental consequence and on metabolic dangers. It offers transparent info at the risksRead more...

Body composition is a key to interpretation of growth, but virtually no data allow prediction at the individual level. Clinicians and researchers must work with parents to determine which outcomes matter. Neuro-cognitive outcome is likely to be of major interest, and while we know that the presence of risk factors such as NEC dramatically increase the risk, there are no good short-term assessments that predict outcome at the individual level. The new “omics” may ultimately provide an insight into better understanding nutritional exposures and their relationships to meaningful long-term outcomes, but prediction at the individual level seems a long way off.

Lipidomics, proteomics, genomics, and metabonomics; each respectively setting out to describe the global characteristics of the lipid, protein, genetic material, and metabolites within a biological system) have developed individually, although in tandem, each employing distinct modalities, but also with considerable overlap of analytical and bio-informatic platforms. The use of “omic” technologies in searching for biomarkers of long-term outcomes of preterm birth is gathering pace. However, to date, no high-specificity and high-sensitivity biomarkers have been published and validated.
