It then went on to the LEA Psychological Advice – which was all extremely odd. As mentioned earlier, we trusted the skill and judgement of the LEA principal educational psychologist (PEP). I urge you to gather information from other sources so that you have a balanced view. The PEP either misdiagnosed or wouldn’t diagnose our children and his assessment of Richard was A STATEMENT OF SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS 39 particularly strange as the findings varied sometimes wildly. 1 centile’, on one assessment, then that he had the ‘oral expression of a seventeen-year-old’ when he was fourteen!
By the time we arrived at the tribunal I was so stressed out I was unable to read! This was ironic as we were there to fight for our son who has great difficulty extracting meaning from the written word! Fortunately, our case was so fully structured and we were so well-prepared by RFA that we were able to win this second tribunal in spite of my mental state. Another professor from the same department confirmed, in 2001, that Richard does meet ICD-10 and DSM-IV criteria.
