In attempting to understand in what contexts we are to understand Woolf, then, this chapter addresses firstly Woolf ’s biographies, which have in many ways been considerable influences on the contexts in which her writing is understood, and then considers how Woolf has been positioned in the context of Bloomsbury and its other members, in the wider historical and political contexts of her time, and in the context of modern and contemporary culture.
